Lumina managed and devised ‘The night Flight of the demons’, a project for people living in south Camden,
London, with theatre designer Sophie Charalambous. This project identified and worked with community
groups in the area to design, construct and perform in the Thames Festival lantern procession. Groups
included older people, Asian young women, families and young people on local estates. We also ran a
summer university course for young people 15 - 25 years old. This arts project gave the community the
opportunity to learn skills and experience a variety of art forms, including design, 3D construction,
collage, mask making, large scale carnival/ street procession design, Dhol drumming and Asian rhythm.
The project worked with the Hindu story of Rama and Sita to create large light box puppets, an army
of monkeys and demons and a mass of hand held lotus lanterns that led the way.
